COVID-19: 5 Ways On How The Work Landscape Will Change

Mar 19, 2020

by: Nezda Marketing

Just as we thought 2020 couldn't get any crazier, March kicks in and shakes the world with a virus that greatly affected the world. And when we say "world", we mean everything in it. From healthcare, to the academe, the government, the economy, the businesses and even the hiring and recruitment industries. This corona virus disease 2019, or more popularly known as COVID-19 is causing stress for everyone, even for the largest recruitment companies in the Philippines and beyond. All of us are witnessing complete shutdown of businesses in all four corners of the country, some opted to close down for the rest of the month, affecting hundreds, if not thousands of employees from different fields.?

?

According to greekwire.com, Zoom's CEO Eric Yuan thinks the way businesses responds to the coronavirus outbreak will definitely lead to a permanent shift in the way people from all over the world work. Thanks to digital and mobile technology, we can still be connected in so many ways. However, as the digital noise becomes heavily overwhelming, people will also start to experience difficulty in sorting through it effectively.?

?

How prepared are we for the possible work related changes caused by this virus outbreak??
In what ways will the work landscape be affected by the COVID-19??

?

Below are 5 ways we think COVID-19 will rewrite the work landscape, and the kind of preparation we take in order for us to manage these changes:?

?

1. Employees Will Be Empowered by Empathetic Employers

?

Businesses should see to it that safety guidelines are followed and that their employees are aware of them. One good idea is to restrict physical contact such as onsite recruitment, company-wide meetings, job fairs and even open-house caravans. This issue forces a company-wide, honest conversations among the employees and the management. In order for companies to empower their employees, they should be able to listen to their needs. Like in any crisis, this outbreak could provide a company or an organization a big opportunity to foster a trust-based empowered culture quickly.?

?

In Nezda, before the suspension of work, we have provided our employees with Vitamin C tablets to boost their immune systems. We see to it that the temperature of each individual employee is checked in the morning and in the afternoon. Following the mandate of the government for enhanced community quarantine, we have already given chosen employees the flexibility to work from home. We have suspended working in our physical offices until further notice.?

?

2.? Remote Work Will Be Strategic

?

Employees and employers alike will re-calibrate their idea of working from home. Remote work will become highly effective if the management will be open to restructuring organizational processes like communication, employee engagement and coordination. However, Nezda is not new to these things. Long before the outbreak started, we have already embraced all cool tools for remote work technology like Zoom, Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams.

?

As the virus hopefully go away soon, these tools will remain highly effective in the business setting. As time passes by, employees may find that they have higher productivity rate when they work from home. Just imagine not having to brave long train lines, or tedious hours of commuting to work. Remote work may possibly remain an option for employees if they see the many advantages that this set-up does to benefit both the company and its workers, that is why, employers should also be prepared for such kind of flexibility.

?

3.?There Will Be a Higher Level for Standard Practices

?

There are already obvious changes that companies and organizations are manifesting: reduced work-related travel, work-from-home opportunities, reduced human contact and improved workplace hygiene. However, more interesting changes will definitely take place once this global health crisis is behind us. Improving standard operating practices is first on the list. There will definitely be a permanent shift in the time that workers choose to work across different industries. Businesses like Nezda, those that rely heavily on large gatherings will have to find alternative ways on how to continue fully operating in the middle of these health chaos.?

?

Over the phone hiring processes and video conferencing calls have already been implemented by Nezda's delivery teams in order to assure continuous provision of job opportunities to people looking for them. The company believes that once this virus outbreak is over, we all can begin again and what other better way to do that than by landing a job that can actually help you rebuild your life.?

?

4. Emphasis on Communication Will Be Heightened

?

In the current work landscape, over communicating is not an overreaction. Capturing the right information and verifying their reliability is? very important. Effective and efficient communication are vital for a company to survive the COVID-19 outbreak. Proactive communication for all people in a company is essential to manage workloads and hit targets even when faced with a health crisis.?

?

In Nezda, we have the shared services center that could support all other teams in all their communication needs and beyond. All business requests and support requirements will be attended to as quickly as possible to assure efficiency in all aspects of the business.?

?

5. Great Companies Will Give Emphasis to Corporate Social Responsibility

?

Private companies and organizations has all the resources under them to assist communities in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak. This is an open opportunity for them to be?effective partners of the government in this time of need. As the coronavirus outbreak continue to affect more and more parts of the country, companies are expected to extend a helping hand to those who need them most during these trying times.?

For its part, Nezda Technologies through it's corporate social responsibility team, NEZDA SERVES, continues to serve those most vulnerable to COVID-19 by providing them with food packs, hygiene kits and the like.?

?

THE BOTTOM LINE

?

There would definitely be a lot of changes in the work landscape and in everything around you during this important time. You must keep a vigilant eye on key things and don't chase every hot take. In every problem, always remember that there is a solution, we'll never know what happens next after this, but as long as we play the right cards and trust those who know what they're doing in business, we can always secure our future with jobs that can help us rebuild our lives after this coronavirus outbreak.

?

Wash your hands, don't touch your face, avoid going out of the house and drink lots of water.?
The work market will come back. It always have, it always will. It would be long, maybe, but it definitely will.
